Synopsis

“PYTHAGORAS” tells the extraordinary life of the ancient Greek luminary, with its gripping drama and profound mystery. Not only a prominent philosopher and scientist, but also a ground-breaking spiritual teacher, Pythagoras advanced notions of great current interest, such as those of science versus spirituality, dream interpretation, numerology, the idea of universal unity, the movement of stars and planets, care for plants and animals, connection between numbers, letters and music, and in general, the desire for a beneficial and harmonious approach to human life on Earth.

It all takes place on a fascinating historical background, when other remarkable illuminated minds lived, such as Confucius, Zoroaster, Buddha and the prophet Isaiah. Pythagoras’ extraordinary life story will be enhanced by the illustration among others, of the mind-blowing, timeless concepts brought forward by his remarkable genius: his famous mathematical “theorem”, the “music of the spheres” (seen as the stirring sound of the Universe made by the turning stars and planets), his idea that “all is number”, and the frequently used notions of “soul”, “soulmate” and “soul transmigration”, all reflected into the perceived existence of an immutable wheel of life and love.

Born on the poetic Greek island of Samos, and an Olympic boxing champion, Pythagoras’s life was also filled with intriguing world travels to Egypt, the lands of Canaan and Babylon, marked by fierce battles for virtue and social justice. Our saga will follow Pythagoras, as well as some other unforgettable characters such as his archenemy the Tyrant Polycrates, his teachers, Creofilus and Thales of Milletus, his friend, Pharaoh Amasis of Egypt, Theano, the love of his life, a beautiful and highly intelligent mathematician and writer, his daughter Mya, an artist and poet, his slave and later on spiritual teacher, Zalmoxys, and his right hand, the Olympic champion Milo.

Among all, facing Pythagoras, stands out his childhood friend and later on his sworn enemy, the fabulously wealthy Samos tyrant, Polycrates. The two are embodying the perennial confrontation between good and evil and their interaction demonstrates with unusual potency how human emotions and actions can be distorted by arrogance, grid and selfishness, negative attributes against which Pythagoras fought passionately all his life.

Our movie, with the fascinating saga it brings forward and its exceptional cinematography and musical background, portrays the towering personality of the unique ancient master and could thus be of interest to large audiences in the world of today, full of unanswered dilemmas and wide-spread belligerence. By presenting the idea of love, cosmic unity and the need to sustain a harmonious universe, it carries a message of peace and care for humanity, a timeless symbol for the Greek culture from the depth of Antiquity until today.

The Harmony of the Spheres, our Movie’s Fascinating Musical Background

The “musica universalis” (literally universal music), also called music of the spheres or harmony of the spheres, is an ancient philosophical concept penned by PYTHAGORAS that took into consideration proportions in the movements of celestial bodies such as the Sun, the Moon and the planets—as a form of music.

Our project will therefore be graced with an exceptional, unforgettable musical background which will bring forward these “out of this world” tunes.
